My name is Janie Mork and I am a colored pencil artist. I have a degree in Studio Art from the University of Minnesota, Morris. I am a CPSA designated member of the Colored Pencil Society of America and I am currently on the City of Richfield Arts Commission.
I love drawing reptiles, amphibians and other small overlooked creatures. I also love still lives and collecting objects to draw. I often combine still lives with living creatures to play with the idea of what a still life can be.
I find it very important to use my own reference images and so I keep a large collection of photographs that I have taken of creatures of all kinds. No toad, frog or critter crosses my path without posing for a photo or two!
I love attending art fairs as a patron and an artist.
My artwork has been featured in Colored Pencil Magazine, CPSA’s publication To The Point, and used as a book cover for Are You Still Kissing Frogs by Kenneth Paul Holmes and Gianna Moriah Rosewood. I have been honored to have my work selected for the Minnesota State Fair art show three times.
My influences as an artist include Tell Hicks and John Stuart Ingle. My favorite contemporary artist is Beth Cavener.
